I would go at least 10 or cooler. Do you have an iggy retard? And keep the clutch covered, these motors do not like WFO for long periods of time.

No retard yet (I was running Nev's box but it failed after 10+ years so have Jim's replacement now.) I like to run a bit rich, especially pilots, and have a CHT setup.

I would recommend a Zeel retard system. And even rich crankcase heating can cause seizure problems.

Zeel has a nice delay unit that plugs in between the stock pickups and a stock CDI system, or the one you have from me.

I've been thinking about the Zeel but haven't researched it yet. Is there a vendor Stateside? I've run the bike three times so far but never with this (potential) power output. Last time out (end of April) it was wicked cold and I was still wayyy rich (wouldn't even accept full throttle in higher gears) but I ran out of time/weather to test/work on it. The bike only ran 100 mph.

John, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by rich crankcase heating (think I know but don't want to guess.) Can you please elaborate?

You said you were running rich, which runs a bit cooler, but does not compensate for crankcase heating.......

Aha, yes, colder is in order for the full on application, and do what John suggested, will help immensely.

I run BR9HIX right out of the box. A bit pricey, but well worth it. Just go a little colder as suggested.

http://fastfromthepast.com sells the Zeel units. You need to look at the VCDI-30s unit.

Does this wire up with stock ignition?

And I presume it requires a charged battery at all times?
