2d gear also on one shaft, don't remember what shaft, is often worn out ![]() |

While I have rarely seen a wear issue, 3rd gear is THE gear in a hard-ridden H2!! |

he may be starting with them and doing more later , I think 3rd is the most abused , then 2nd , 5th is highway use bikes , I rarely give first a hard time , But I'm not a poser ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The third output gear and the two left of it were the only torn up ones in the tranny I have. ![]() ![]() |

I can only speak from personal experience, I just counted TWENTY SEVEN sets of worn 5th/1st Gears . . by comparison I have Six of the others . . .the single most common reason for stripping a tranny is jumping out of 1st gear . . . . . Maybe it's all that cruising that you guys do over there ![]() |

I understood from Martin Bishop a long time ago that third gear was vulnerable on a high power drag motor (nitrous) as it was in the centre of the shafts which could bend under the load. The shafts are just too close together for the torque being transmitted, and this is why he moved to the composite of H2 crankcase with Z1 box welded on. Similarly, the prime reason for Ralf and Leo developing their "billet" engine with the GPz900 gearbox was down to an inherantly weak 5th gear, also because of the too close together shafts. |
