Looks like it should be salvageable for the right bodyman. :) SOLD and yes it was a big dent ..A tree had fallen on bike.. tank took the least damage.. Both wheels were badly bent along with the frame.. :(

One of my best friends growing up, was taught bodywork as soon as he could hold a sheet of sandpaper. His dad did crash repairs on a lot of Vettes, some that looked like it was impossible. So my buddy was magical with rebuilding cars by the time he was in high school.

Well, he picked up a XKE Jag with the front pushed all the way to the firewall..... :o And by gosh, he got that thing looking new, and not by replacing parts, he rebuilt the panels and hood. It was amazing.

So, something like this is easy to any good bodyman.

My guess would be a really bad dent.

they started to pound the dent out.

Really, that tank is good to go for a guy that can TIG. Looks nice and clean inside.

I wish that was a scalloped tank cause I'd buy it in a heartbeat.. Exactly what I need right now.

.
Common sense would say, grind the welds off, beat it back into shape and then weld it back up . . . pretty mundane stuff to a good bodyman

I remember laughing years ago when Motorcycle Mechanics Magazine was rebuilding a GPz 550. The bike didn't have the key, and they wanted to get in the tank, so they cut the bottom off. As most of us know, a screwdriver, or almost any key will pop the cap........
