Extremely Nice ORIGINAL, UNMOLESTED, 1972 Yamaha DT2 in Mandarin Orange paint.

Bike is as it left the factory with its original tires, tool kit, grey cables, owners manual, etc. A real time capsule.

Has 2325 original miles and has basically been in dry storage for nearly 30 years aside from a "quick spin" back around 2003. If my math is correct, its been ridden less than 60 miles a year during its 40 years!!!!

Although a bit dusty from storage, on a scale of 1-10, this is a SOLID "7.5" bike in its current condition, and with a bit of TLC (clean-up/detailing/tune-up) will be a close to a "9". Bike also comes with Factory Yamaha "Buddy Seat/Rack" assembly (not shown), which in and of itself is a RARE piece.
I have witnessed several of these bikes sell on ebay in similar (or worse) condition for close to 2x's what I am asking, with restored examples bringing well over $4000.00.
In my opinion, this bike is far too nice to restore. They are Only Original ONCE!!!

Since the bike has been sitting, the carb slide has decided to "stick", so that will need to be freed up, along with carb cleaned, adjusted.., and I would change the tranny oil. Other than that, it kicks over with STRONG compression, and BIG FAT SPARK.
Everything else is free (brakes, clutch, etc) and operates smoothly.

It is a couple of hours (MAX) from being road-worthy. Even the original tires are amazingly soft, with only minor weather checking.
I know the bike is a "Runner" (after carb clean) as I bought it from a friend/co-worker of my father-in-laws and is just one of those bikes that was parked for no reason other than life getting in the way......

Very little pitting on chrome, nice bright paint (a few small dings/scratches), inside of tank has light surface haze, but no real rust or nasty old fuel as the tank was drained before storage. Seat has a small cut where the cover wraps around the edge of the pan, but this could be repaired without replacing cover and would be unnoticable.

Really, this bike just needs a good detailing and tune-up and its ready to go...

Asking $1900.00 or B/O

If interested, shoot me a PM.

Thanks Guys..

Very nice Cody - I thought mine was a 1972 but just checked - it's a 1970 (no reed - they came out in 1971)

Here's me on my 1970 250 (notice non-reed) - this pic is circa 1974-6, something like that. I was 14 when I bought it- no license, I was living in a car - so I got chased by the cops a lot. I still have the engine! And you've probably seen pictures of my DT400 on this board already.

Long story Cody, lets say my early teens were tough. Living fully on my own since 14 but mostly on my own even before that. When I turned 15 my Probation Officer granted me emancipation - basically I was a legal adult but I still could not get a drivers license~!

"An emancipated minor is a minor who is allowed to conduct a business or any other occupation on his or her own behalf or for their own account outside the influence of a parent or guardian. The minor will then have full contractual capacity to conclude contract with regard to the business. Whether parental consent is needed to achieve the "emancipated" status varies from case to case. In some cases, court permission is necessary".

This is my story: "It can be granted without due court granting when the minor is bound to make a decision for himself in the absence of his parents (who may be already dead or who may have abandoned the minor)".

I was living in a non-running 1957 Pontiac Star Chief I bought for $50. Freshman in HS and working two part-time jobs - my PO arranged my emancipation march 1975 when I turned 15. I continued to live in the Pontiac for a while but eventually dropped out of HS and worked full time.

Very nice bike. I'm glad I'm not looking for one or I'd probably have to buy it.

Love it!

Ive got a good childhood friend with a similar story. He went from dropping out of H.S. at age 15, and living on his own, to a Doctoral Degree in Special Education. Now works with "at risk" youth. My dad was sure he was going to end up in jail or dead....
