Kinda the same as people thinking chrome molly steel is lighter/stronger than mild steel. It's alloyed properties allow thinner tubing to do the same job as mild steel, as it can flex farther without permanent deformation. But a foot of cro-mo tubing is virtually the same weight as a tube of the same thickness of mild steel.

Not complaining here, Steve. Do you have a stock one to weigh? It might shed some light on the material the custom one is made of.

The word "billet" just refers to a solid chunk of metal, so a billet crankcase would be machined from a solid piece of metal, rather than a casting that was already somewhat crankcase shaped.

Not in the least offended or put off here Jim, dont take me wrong.
If I had a stock one here, I'd have done a side by side for sure.
And I have learned something today, so its all good Bud.

I think you have a titanium bolt, Steve. Price it as such. I assume a magnet has no interest in it. (?)

(Thank you, Darrin)

Thanks a bunch Darrin, and Jim, what would be a fair price for "Titanium"

not to be confused with "Unobtainium" as we have all encountered.

I guess it depends on the buyer and what he's willing to spend. I'd expect to pay a lot for one. Verify that a magnet won't stick, but with that weight difference, it pretty much has to be titanium. If it were aluminum, it would be lighter yet, and a different color.

Hey..... a Cody sighting....

Magnet has no pull at all on it, so I'm going to go with Jim's thinking, that it's likely Titanium.

50 bucks
100 bucks
????
Anyone? Before it goes to the wolves at eBad???

We snuck some Titanium swing arm bolts and front/rear axles on the H2R's. The AMA had a "NO Titamium" rule, nothing of that material could be used at any pivot/rotational axis. We did get away wityh it for a few races, but the AMA tech inspectors found out, and began to bring magnets. No magnetism, no use that part. So, we started back machining the ends and installed steel inserts, so the ends of the bolts were magnetic. We got away with it a bit more, then, BUSTED, had to be steel, nothing else.
