Does NOT have to run. "Non-electrical, slow-working caveman"(me) took low and hi spd coils out to put in new (Jim's replacement); taking phone pics; but angles, room light, and passage of time baffles me. (Jim has tried extra instructions). Willing to buy complete, dirty, stator assembly just to have it as model - as I try to solder all back. Best if even the ground(s) are still attached. thx in advance. :banghead

Maybe someone with an original stator that's not installed in an engine could post a good photo of the two coils stacked up so you can see the wires.

THX "III"; I am as weak on 'computers' as on 'electrical knowledge'. I think I hit "new post" by accident.....can you look for the "thx for the Zoom" topic for my follow up question. HUGE seasonal thanks!!

Thx, Dale, Jim and III. I may can finish soldering Sunday, as weather should be warm. Hopefully if I misplace 1 connect, it just 'won't start'. Gracias!

Here is a wiring diagram if it helps:

I had first looked at a wiring diagram, but it doesn't 'separate' the exciter coils graphically. It appears to indicate a red goes to upper terminal of each, and a white goes to the lower terminal of each, which seems logical even to me. I will combine this w. diagram's (hints) with other collected responses and paperwork spread out on my garage floor soon and finalize my soldering. Have a safe weekend y'all !

As you can see in III's photo:

* on the upper coil, which is the high speed coil, a white wire goes from the right terminal to the LS coil's left terminal.
* The harness' white wire also connects to the LS coil's left terminal
* The harness' red wire connects to the HS coil's (upper coil's) left terminal.
* The harness' black wire connects to the mounting screw (ground)
* Another black wire connects to that same screw, and to the LS coil's right terminal.

This agrees with the wiring diagram that Mraxl posted.
