I know this has been just about beat to death and then drug behind Aylor's Taurus wagon, but in my uneducated view, the H1 and H2 transmission and clutch assemblies are virtually the same, right?
They pretty much weigh the same, spin at the same RPMs, etc, correct?
Ok, so yes, I know...the H2 is capable of producing more "torque", but there are some HOT H1's out there that put more power to the ground than many an H2 does and they are beaten on for thousands of miles without "the ring of death" killing them and everybody they know. Not only that, but an H1 is usually more heavily relied on for "clutch duty" (slipping to get going) as they tend to be gutless off of the line unless ringing their throats...especially on a ported H1.
I don't remember reading about anybody, ever, anywhere, that had an issue with a STREET RIDDEN H2 clutch basket exploding from NOT using "the ring".
*Drag racers and Roadracers DO NOT COUNT, as they are NOT stock street bikes and are subject to far more abuse and power than most of us subject our bikes to*
I just don't see it being a necessary part for the street.... That said, I still run one....only cause I got it though.
