Man, am I lost.......very easily done.

So, a 72 S2 tail is the same as a 72 and 73 H2/H2A. Tank is the same shape just different at the fill neck and uses different caps, on a 72 and 73 S2/S2A. Seats are different on both S2's as to match the tail section as it changed on the S2A.
Therefore, if'n a feller was looking for a tail section for a 72 S2 would not the tail section from a 72/73 H2 work? Please, edumacate me.

Or one from an S1 (H2/S2) as seen here?

Yes, 72 S2, 72-73 H2/A Tail Section will interchange and appear identical, except for slight differences in the inner compartment area.

You're correct on your other accounts. I seem to recall though that the S2A Tail will bolt on to the S2 frame as it's reportedly the same at the rear, but then the seats won't quite match in appearance, but again, get an S2A seat and it'll work just fine.
