I called them before. If I remember correctly it was something like $1,200 for three cylinders. Still more affordable to find used H2 cylinders.

L.A. Sleeve was about a mile from my house when I lived in Whittier, Ca. They are in Santa Fe Springs, Ca. I remember the dad and uncle, and their first shop in downtown Los Angeles, eons ago. They have made sleeves for me for 40 plus years.

If you resleeve, use the flanged sleeves, flanges at the top, held down by the heads and gaskets, and use one roll pin in a hole drilled half way into the sides of the sleeve flange and the flange relief in the barrel, so the sleeve doesn't turn in the bore.

When I had the Metchkoff's do sleeves for me, I had them make the OD a bit larger, and then bored the barrels to fit the sleeves, gave a bit more thickness to the sleeve. This required the sleeve register holes in the cases to be bored as well, so the bottoms of the sleeves would fit into the cases. Lots of work, but, a lot more sleeve skirt extension strength in the bottom of them.

so, I would assume that the better set has a lip or a ridge around the top

Thanks for the info :!: ............so are you saying the roll pin would go in the top of the cylinder vertically with a notch in the outer sleeve and in the inner barrel :?:

I have heard they do a template and cut out the ports to some degree :?:, do you know ...............could probably have the Tranfers Windows done to any heighth desired as well

Yup, that would be the flange. The pin is as you said, keeps the sleeve from rotating in the cylinder casting. I always hand finish the port alignments, as I usually change most of the exit angles, to better aim the mixture paths.

I do a lot of work on Buick and Rover all aluminum V8's, big bore kits, stroker crankshafts, and I install the flanged sleeves in them too, with the pins. The a Rover engines all have straight, no flange stock sleeves that literally drop in the block, making a giant mess. The flanged sleeves stop all that right quick.

Works in all sorts of engines.

Check out this link. This guy acid etches the liners so they match the ports with sleeves they make at a local foundry. They were way cheaper then LA Sleeve.

Thanks for the Info........talked to Dave at LA sleeve......he says they have a stock pattern with the ports already cut out.........made of good spun steel.........$425 a piece installed

I explained to him that the very early cylinders, the ports are oriented a bit different........he was unaware of that.....any extra work costs extra of course

One can also get a nacasil coat for the iron liners to bring back into clearance and stop cylinder wear.

I never had any adverse issues with any L.A. Sleeve sleeve, or job they did for me, and that was back all the way to Dave's dad and uncle, 40 years ago. Yes, there will need to be work done to match the ports up, but from what I remember, they do that as part of the sleeve installation. If you want a full on port job, I don't think they do that. Their sleeves are a lot stronger than stock Kawasaki sleeves.

If I were going to Nik-A-Syl a bore that had an iron or other sleeve in it, I'd make aluminum sleeves, replace the iron sleeves with the aluminum ones, then coat them. NOT easy to do, LOTS of work, but, works a lot better for heat transfer. Have done a few like that, with L.A. Sleeve special built sleeves.
