"Webelo's", We Be Loyal (scouts).
I do all the cranks for dirt bikes and everything else that presses apart, for a long distance around, and I have used the Hot Rods brand rod kits with great success, no failures. Look at the rod kit applications at parts Unlimited online, should have an application for your engine.
I just took a look at the Parts Unlimited "Hot Rods" brand rod kit applications on a disk I have, KX250 (1978 thru 2005) and KDX250 (1991 thru 1994), p/n 42-3102, price in 2008, $137.95, Available at any dealer carrying Parts Unlimited vended parts, and/or Hot Rods rod kits, of which, Hot Rods has its own web site, google search it.
Also at Parts Unlimited, 3 more applications,
VESRAH also has a rod kit for those cranks, application, KX250 (1988 thru 2001) p/n 0923-1101, $97.95 each
Pro-X, KX250 rod kit, (1978 thru 2008), p/n 0923-0131, $101.95
Wiseco also has a lower end rebuild kit, $215.00, has more than just the rod kit, it has a crankshaft assembled, bearings seals, gasket set.
If the flywheels are in good shape, no reason NOT to rebuild the crankshaft. Most crank wheels can be completely refurbished to as good as new, most better than new.
Also, in the early 2000's, Kawasaki and Suzuki had a manufacturing agreement to have Kawasaki manufacture certain dirt bike models, when Suzuki's bikes ended up really bad, but, a KX/RM 250 joint effort wasn't one of them that I know of.
You have options, sir.
