Will it remove paint and surface rust from steel?

All day, and I use vapor corrosion inhibitors in my slurry tank so it won't flash rust, and the finish is smooth and very slightly satin-ey on steel. But it needs to get coated or plated or otherwise treated pretty promptly, because the corrosion inhibitor won't keep it stable forever.

You wanna experiment with something? I'm game. Tell me what you're thinking about...

You did good, sir. Don't worry about the water, it only lubricates and moves the free metals off the part as the burnishing process is working. You don't have to follow my method, yours works GREAT.

I am glad all this is all working to get the best resto we can for our 4 decades plus old metals back to beautiful.

I will be interested in the salt and sun tests, they should tell us what happens with the un-coated metals when exposed to the elements. That'll be more good info to make revisions, whatever.

Please, be especially careful when working with the chrome, as it can literally lift off the metal as you are hand working it after the blasting, and, its edges are as sharp as a razor blade.

One of the products I have here that's made to prevent the corrosion of aluminum after it's cleaned seems to be like car wax. I haven't used it much yet, but so far it looks promising.

I use two products for that - one called Boeshield and the other is ACF-50. Both leave a protective lubricating film on aluminum that is very effective. These products are from the aircraft industry. You could describe the film as "waxy" for sure.

What are you referring to?

California Custom Purple Metal Polish, to be used after their Aluminum Deoxidizer. If I remember right, it's made in Australia. I got a kit of the two bottles, and it's worked pretty well on my Moto Guzzi engine. No need on my H2 engine.

I appreciate that. Well, not specifically what they give you, but the compliment. Not sure if you know, but I made them.

Jim, I have been using that California Custom 2 step on tons of metal parts and love it.
Funny how you keep rubbing the dirt back in with the same dirty cloth, and things come out so bright when you buff it off.
Curtis from the Canuck forum told me about it last year.
Only issue I have is that you use (at least I do) twice as much of the 1st step cleaner liquid.
I imagine they sell just that part, but I don't need it yet, so I never checked.

Good Stuff

You might be able to get an idea of what it is if you can find an MSDS for it.
