Used knobby tires run cheap... :lol:
I knew a kid growing up that would take any of my garbage to fund his dirtbike... Including used engine oil in the injector tank... And my personal favorite was him stuffing grease soaked toilet paper in the rear axle housing to replace the bearings when they fell apart... He would be constantly repacking it but claimed it was better than walking.

A lot of NM is "boondocks", and homes on dirt roads. My bet is it was because of that.

Nope. WI is in the top ten of cycle street registrations and when I used to bump into triple parts bikes, fully a quarter of them had knobbies. There must be some other inspiration.
