You must now that on french production race 750cc class, then 1000cc class, then 1300cc class, from 1972 to 1978 included, the championship was winning by H2, last victory of H2 was on 1979, the late Joël PARE at Paul Ricard track who sadly died of illness some years after. On 1979, rules change, the bikes could have all internal they want just carbs and exhausts stock (before was standart bikes) to help Honda 900 Bol d'or to win. During those years, H2S fought against CB 750 on 72, the poor four never saw the light, then Z1 which never saw the light too, some Norton 750, then Ducati 900ss which won some races but never the championship, Laverda 1000cc same than Ducati, GUZZI 850 LM which won one race (factory bike with non standart engine exhaust, Le Mans track 1978? but we said nothing as we rode with av-gas which was also illegal and the second -the great Rosseto ANGELINIADIS who sadly became tetraplegic after a crash on race bike 10 years later- was on H2 as the others and was beaten by half a second on the chequered flag). But in Le MANS 6 hours endurance race 1979, we were second overall on trial, first was Dominique SARRON with official french HONDA 900 Bol d'or with the whole racing kit excepted carbs and exhausts and the 3d, 4th and 5th were French Honda official bikes: race was an other story ![]() Our H2 was just xtrem porting with a round crankshaft made by my race partner Laurent V (genuine H2 crankshaft with alloy inserts bolt and glue on the original crank). the engine was strong and tractable from 1500 RPM to 8500 RPM ![]() ![]() The year after, the track drawing changes and became longer so it's the best lap for ever done by an H2 production on Le Mans ![]() |

Beautiful stuff, J.P. I thank you!! Used to race stock production even earlier than that - ('72 -'80ish) but it was hardly Le-Mans!! The H2 always gave good account of itself in production racing. Good memories! ![]() |

What tires did you use on the front, back then, J.P. - we had to use street tires mostly - won a couple of races on Yokohama "world tour" 3.25-19's . They would slide a whole lot, before "letting go"! |

My exhausts were standart cause rules were standart bike, just bent them to fit them more under the engine for ground clearance with the fact there were cut, the two externals, under engine place to weld a piece of metal for better ground clearance. On Albi track which was and is still a very fast track, there is a right curve you take on four gear 8500 rpm or 5th 7000 RPM where the front shock and rear shocks are really compressed just after you throw the bike on the curve: on H2 we touched the ground with the clutch cover !!!! was the only track where it happened ![]() of course never fit the protect engine bar on this track cause if you did it, you couldn't really go fast on this curve ![]() ![]() |
