With the advice on this forum, and mraxl's site, http://kawtriple.com/mraxl/ you can easily build an engine yourself. They are relatively simple and straight forward engines, and a little care and patience will get you a long way. All the information is on the Triples resource site, and plenty of free advice here!

Yes it's more fun to fix things by oneself. Special tools, parts availability/cost and inexperience are the things I worry about.

I did remove the fugly crash bar from the blue bike. Still need to fix the engine though. Would love to learn to rebuild an complete engine myself. That would save me a total of 1600+ km transporting it in my car to the rebuilder and back. Not sure what to do yet.
the more difficult job on do it yourself rebuilt engine would be the set up of points ignition on the H1B

It's tricky?

No... setting points is easy but takes a little time.

After a long hiatus I have gotten back to these bikes.

Now concentrating on the orange H1B we have gotten a new battery and fixed some small things.

I turns out that this bike have the same symptom as the H1A and H1D: one cylinder is dead.

In this case it's the middle one. There is also excessive exhaust smoke on the left pipe.

Today it was hard to start the engine and I had to hold in the choke for quite some time before it would idle properly.

So I have three H1s and each one of them have one cold cylinder. Could all of them have bad crank seals?

But I am committed to sorting them out now.

If they've been sitting idle for several years, it's likely the carburetors need a good cleaning before you go on to other troubleshooting.

Bad crank seals won't cause one cyl to not fire.
Clean those carbs or at least swap them to see if the dead cyl follows the carb.

I will check out the carbs. Starting with carburetor cleaner and maybe som wires? I have thought about investing in an ultrasonic cleaner

Yes, bad crank seal should affect more than one cylinder?

Is just so strange that all three bikes have the same problem.

Have all three been sitting for a long time without being run?

All three have been sitting since autumn 2017.

Back then I was trying to troubleshoot the cold cylinders on the H1A and particularly the H1D. Then other things got in the way.

I was fairly certain the H1B did run on all cylinders four years ago but now it doesn't.
