When I looked into these types of coatings I found this site KG Industries. They claim to make the original Gun-Kote and were originally Kal Gard then changed their name to KG. Look here as there are way more products with a greater choice of colors. Look at the 1000, 1600F, 2300, 2400, and 2400 metalics.

I also have never primed any of the mentioned surfaces using that same paint and have had very good results. That 550 degree paint even works pretty well on chambers but it eventually does go to hell in the header area.
Enter the 900 degree "Caliper" formula, this is still a true gloss paint and has proven to be quite remarkable.
