Thinking about adding a 4-stroke to the barn, but no real hurry. Considering a Suzuki GS500E as an option. I like the standard bike riding position over a full sportbike and I like a parallel twin. Anyone have any experience or opinions on these?

I always liked the GS500E for it's "nakedness" and simplicity, though I have never ridden one. Another I would consider similar to this would be the Kaw Zephyr 550 or 750 for the same reasons. As you've seen, the GS are relatively available and often affordably priced.

A bit off your question: I've often thought how special it would be to shoehorn an H1 or H2 motor into any one of these bikes with it's modern chassis, suspension, and brakes. This way you would not have to worry about mismatched suspension geometry at all.

They are built down to a price. Not fantastic quality (compared to a Honda), but a good bike nonetheless

They are good bikes, but some people complain about the front forks. The engines run well, and handling is not bad.
