Roads get clogged in the DC area with an inch or two. Funny thing is that it wasn't as bad before front wheel drive. My conclusion is that people are either less skilled at driving or more stupid. |

My conclusion is that people are either less skilled at driving or more stupid.[/quote] Amen Brother Jim, I drive it I-66 East, and 28 North to Dulles 61 miles one way every workday and the level of idiocy and incompetence of the drivers in traffic continues to amaze me, particularly in bad weather. The soccer mom's and Dads in their AWD crossovers ( which because it says AWD somehow makes them believe they possess super powers over physics)... |

4wd only gets and keeps you moving. Care must still be taken with starting, stopping and steering. Usually the first real snow in Pa reminds people that 4wd does not make you invincible ![]() |

The other problem is all this traction control, ABS, and the like. You don't have to learn any of the "tricks" that always worked and when you try to drive a vehicle with all this stuff it just doesn't work like it once did. I was driving my wives CX9 AWD today in the snow, hated it! Give me regular 4wheel drive, or rear wheel, or front wheel, no ABS and no traction control and good tires! Im sure the statistics prove otherwise but thats my 2 cents. |

In the mountain area's here they have chain use mandatory unless you have a 4x4 with snow tires. If it gets real bad, everyone must use chains. Since so many people head up the mountains to go skiing and so many have never driven in the snow it can get insane. They didn't plow until the next day because there was to many cars and trucks crashed all over the road. Add to that they don't use salt and it rained first to make it nice and icy. |

There was a survey I once heard of. 85% of drivers felt their driving skills were "above average". Do the math ![]() |
