I have a 2014 Ninja 1000 with ABS. I was on the fence about it because it cost $400 more. Then I read a post by a ZX-14R owner on another forum. He had just crashed his 2012 ZX-14R at a toll booth, causing $2500 damage. It didn't have ABS, and what happened is that the super powerful front brake locked up on good dry pavement. He was a very experienced rider and a top poster. He stated that he would never ride a bike without ABS again and sold it and bought a new 2014 ZX-14R with ABS. I think you might not ever need it, but it supplies piece of mind when operating these ungodly powerful front brakes. |

no abs if I want to block my front wheel I want to be able to do this. Years ago blocked my front brembo 320 double discs on my Bimota YB9 SRI , let the brake then blocked again, let the brake off block again and stop (was at 115MPH) with an ABS I would have finish on the car in front of me. ![]() |

If it gives you peace of mind, go for it - the weight factor (with/without) is irrelevant these days. I am not a fan personally, but I have only ridden a few bikes with it, and can't recall it "operating" |

I don't think that I've ever ridden a bike with ABS? Not against it at all, and absolutely can see the benefits. That said, I'm used to being in control of what my front wheel is doing (most of the time ![]() on the other hand, I HATE ABS in most cars and trucks that I drive. Here in snow country, it takes away my ability to control the vehicle at slow speeds. Most systems are far too sensitive and trigger at far too slow a speed. My wifes' last car (Chevy Maxx with new Michelin all season tires) was horrible. You'd find yourself clear across an intersection because the computer decided that it should "pump the brakes" for you. When, without ABS, you'd just skid to a stop well within a proper distance. And I'm talking rolling to a stop from 10mph...slowly. That said, she used to have a Chrysler mini van that had the best ABS system I have ever felt. It was like it had studded tires when it was icy/snowy. That system was dialed in 100% and was a joy to drive in the winter. Tires play a huge roll obviously, but some systems are just set up WRONG. And don't get me started on traction control. That chevy had it as well and it was a freaking JOKE. Thankfully, you could disable it... |

I've never had ABS....so I'm always prepared to go around..... ![]() I've talked to several skilled drivers who got ABS and they all say they'd never again be without it. They particularly note the advantages when fully loaded; like pulling double. Now....about that Dynamic Traction Control ...... the same guys praised that too.....especially in the rain. |

I'm with you on icy roads with a car, I can stop a car quicker without them by pulsing the brake on and off but more severely than the abs does. They are really only effective for people who panic and apply more pressure even though their front tire is locked. I've never had the abs activate on just wet or dry pavement yet though. On a bike however, even though I haven't ridden one with it, it only makes sense. |
