You just like bikes that "surge" a lot! Early "Star-wars" or late "water-bottle" style? |

I've got a 1976 RE5, I like it, almost as much as the Water Buffalo's I also have. They are very specific on tune, and a lot of owners remove the wire from the retard set of points, and the carb/oil pump/power port phasing is rather tricky, but, when right, they work like a nice, slow 500 twin. One area of concern is the 4 studs on the front of the chamber for the exhaust pipe diverter, and the two studs the flange fit into. It has to be in good condition, no leaks, and the baffles in the pipes MUST be clean, and left in position. They aren't that hard to work on for tuning and normal maintenance, but, inside the engine, better know what you are doing. When these things were new, Suzuki had an engine warranty that was rather specific, owners, dealers that had warranty problems, don't take the power head apart, Suzuki will supply a complete replacement factory built power head, period. They ain't a racer, but, they are really nice to ride, and do garner a lot of people's interest/attention at places like cruise-in's, car and bike shows, etc., a lot like our triples do. Rotary Recycle, google it, expensive, but, they do have parts and services for the RE5's. |

It is a lot more friendly to ride than my Norton Police Interceptor rotary, and one heck of a lot more civilized than the Hercules I own, too. I sure would have liked to ride the Yamaha prototype, I rode the Kawasaki version, had loads of promise. |

The '76 is too normal looking so I got the '75 "Star Trek" model in blue. Sounds like a sewing machine with gastrointestinal problems. I love it! When I finally get around to making it look nice I have a too large shopping list for Rotary Recycle. |

Please be aware, there are a few places for oils for the engine/trans/clutch. Those run a trans/clutch pool, like our two strokes, AND a sump for the engine, along with the oil injection system. I'd suggest first, go on the net and look up the oiling systems, learn them, they can be life or death for a "Toad-ary". They are fun to work on, really, not that bad. Mine is the '76, wish I did have the 'Star Wars' '75 model as well, they'd look good sitting side by side. |

THanks again tuner , I am interested in your help , whats your idea on syn 2stroke in oil tank , and was going to use 2stroke gearbox oil ( motorex ), what was the Yamaha like to ride ??, talk to Jess he may want to clear bikes here and there maybe an M Model , I was an apprentice at a Small Suzuki shop in Sydney when they came out and always wanted one , but not my style at time as I was Riding A H2 72 , and pulling wheelies everywhere and I would whip the ass of a Z1 everyday !!!! |
