Another home run may be the other big reveal: reworked YZ125 and YZ250 motocrossers. Yep, in this age of enviro-consciousness, Yamaha doubled down on its two-smokers, as it claims its sales of the oil-burners was up 26 percent from April 2013 to March 2014. And why not? They’re more affordable, easier to maintain, have that killer ring-a-ding exhaust note (and top-end hit) and make your clothes smell awesome. For 2015, both models get a plethora of new parts, including bodywork, airbox, rear sprocket, foot pegs, tires, triple clamps and other odds and ends. Even the little YZ85 gets a similar makeover. Pricing for the 125 is $6,390, the 250 is $7290 and the 85 will ding your college fund $4,090.

Great news
I had assumed that eventually all 2-stroke bikes would disappear.
Is there any technology on the horizon that could build a reasonably priced 2-stroke street bike and still met emissions standard?

FINALLY, common sense returns to motorcycling, and the onslaught of 4 striker' dirt bikes has competition from a better way to do it, yet again.

I have worked on far, far too many of the 4 stroke motocross and dirt bikes of late, to have any other opinion but two,

The new age 4 striker dirt bikes are garbage, their engines tear themselves up quite regularly, and are hot easy to get to run right, disasters all around

And,

For a 4 stroke dirt bike, a suspension upgrade is all that is needed for one of the best 4 striker dirt bikes we have ever had, the Yamaha TT500. My 1979 TT has run since it was new, on the same engine parts installed at the factory, all those years ago, and it only needs routine maintenance, not a complete rebuild and replate of the Mic-A-Syl on the barrel, every six months. I also street ride this bike's sister, a 1978 SR500, same deal, no rebuild since new, no fancy stuff, it just starts, runs and works, like the 2 stroke bikes I have had for decades.

Good for Yamaha, I hope the rest have the huevo's to follow along with the common sense of Yamaha's lead.

TT500 was a nice bike, would love to have one......here's a fun comparo...(correct me if I'm wrong)
The TT500 was a heavy slug of a beast......at least by todays standards.......27 Hp/340 pounds....Ah Ummmm....

Take the YZ250....a mere 227 pound curb weight !!!
And I believe the YZ250 cranks out a whopping 47 Hp !!! (a little work and some street tires and go H1 hunting)

Yep...for me anyway....the old dirt bikes are for quiet little trail rides.
Serious rut diggin' and grade clawin' requires a modern beast for serious fun.

My point was that the new 4 strikers are just plain junkers after a short time, but, the old slugs, like the TT, are fun, great, heavy, have no suspension, and, that makes them a blast to ride versus the new garbage. Sure, I'd love to put that Yamaha TT engine in a new chassis, but, that'd ruin the fun of it all.

Along with the TT, I have sitting out in the shop, a few bikes I haven't gotten to, my own stuff, an F7, F9, F11, AT1 Yamaha, YZ125, YZ400, DT250, DT360, Suzuki RM 125, real fun bikes, all two strokes. It'd be nice to upgrade to things like 6 speed trans, EFI on the old stuff, but, they run just fine when tuned properly.

About six years ago, I had the chance to buy a really clean, low model early KL250, really nice bike. The owner decided to keep it, but I work on it and have first dibs if he decides to sell it.

What I want to build for street bikes are the F7 into a nice street screamer, not patterned after a dirt bike, but like the road racer pictured here not long ago. And, a YZR400 Yamaha inline 4 chassis, with Yamaha TDM 850 4 stroke parallel twin engine.

I don't know, the factory 2 stroke racer dirt bikes, had their share of frequent rebuilding. Al bight much cheaper to rebuild. The new 4 strokes are putting out amazing hp, and not all are crap and need rebuilding all the time.
