Have you tried to buy a new gas can lately? I have a two gallon plastic can that I bought twenty years ago for a few bucks that has served me well. The last time I used it a split in the flexible filler tube had developed from aging. I asked the wife to pick up a new two gallon can at Wally World. She came back with this can that it takes two men & a boy to operate.... NO SPILL.... government compliant... for $16!!! I thought she must have just picked up the most expensive elaborate one she could find. Got online only to find that our government is protecting us from ourselves again and they are all required to have this "No Spill" feature. No vent is included on the cans and a valve is a part of the nozzle (restricting flow) that has to be held against a spring load to operate while filling. OVER ENGINEERED PIECE OF CRAP! So... I put some shrink tube on my old split filler and good to go. |

The no spill feature actually causes more fuel to spill. Complete opposite of what they wanted to achieve. But since the govt got involved, what else would you expect? ![]() |

Oh no. I didn't notice this happening or I would have bought about half a dozen of the really nice 6 gallon plastic gas cans that Sam's used to sell for a few bucks each. I just searched for "6 gallon gas can" and I see what you mean. I think I remember this new type on "Shark Tank" not long ago. I bet that guy got rich fast. |

It looks like this has also opened the market for overpriced "replacement" spouts. A new old-style flexible spout for a Gott gas can seems to be going for $10 or more. |

I feel your pain. I have 4 or 5 of various size "new type" and they all suck. I still have two of my 5gal jeep cans - nothing beats them although they are heavy they work the best. |

Yeah... I came to this realization a few years ago when I needed a new can.. I weep for the future if the present is any indication of how intrusive the gov't will be? There are actually video's on youtube showing how to "modify" the new style pile of crap. Now, just out of spite, I make sure to spill as much fuel as possible when filling up equipment. ![]() Garage Sales are your friend now days when it comes to gas cans. |

I've been using a 5 gallon metal can from back in the day that doesn't have any rust although the race jugs with the hose attached works very well. I have a threaded barb fitting on the end of the hose with a threaded cap. |
