I'm still not if favor of helmet laws for adults, but I'm strongly in favor of choosing to use one. After all, if motorcycles were banned, even more lives would be saved than are saved by helmet laws. Plus, a little natural selection can be a good thing.

In Indiana - no helmet required. To me that says "How bad do you want to be cool?" That badly, huh? Go ahead, knock yourself out.

Back in the 70's when NY initiated the "headlight law" I attended two huge protests in NYC.
On my G3ss once and a Honduh CL350 the other.
Protesting the headlight AND helmet laws.
I am with most people in feeling that the govt. tells us too often what we can and cant do.






But I never ride on the streets without a full face helmet.
Cool can be stupid and life ending. Call me uncool.

I too don't want any government agency telling me what to do and I don't agree with helmet laws.
But there are FAR worse thing than death that can happen to your head when riding without a helmet. Watched my cousin whom I grew up with and rode with (he taught me to ride) die a slow 5 year death from an accident without a helmet. Not high speed either and less than a mile from getting home and one of the best riders I knew.
The worst part is the damage done left him with the ability to know how messed up he was. Instant Death would have been better.
Life is dangerous, no government agency is going to prevent stuff from happening, but we can manage the risk.

And the weird part is I still sometimes ride helmet-less into town or such and think its fine! :oops: :crazy:

Life if all about Risk Versus Rewards !!! I would never ride a bike without a Helmet but that being said,if people chose to ride without helmets power to them !!!!! I think people realize the danger and if they want to take a chance,so be it,its their right !!!! I saw a brain injury close up when my Dad was without oxygen for 12 minutes after his surgery and it wasn't pretty.His brain injury eventually took his life,but what I saw with my Dad I wouldn't wish on anybody !!!!! My Father's doctor told me he saw that type of injury caused by 2 things,motorcycles and horseback riding with broken necks !!!!!

The article only deals with the number of deaths, but doesnt address the number of deaths as a percentage of people riding. I'd argue that some of the increase would be due to more people riding bikes in that time. Take away helmet laws and you might find people on their bikes who otherwise wouldn't ride.

have only one life so I wear an helmet even to do a quater of mile, BTW many peoples who died on bicycles have had head injuries and no helmet.

We live with seatbelts laws, we can literally "live" with helmet laws.........

I helped trying to save a kid with his head crushed in, people will do stupid things, nothing wrong at all with a helmet law......

In Hawaii they fight it because all the tourists ride around on scooters etc without helmets
And it's a pain to equip them all with helmets I hear
