as above really -
the only off put for my commute is i dont have a lot of trust in the tyres after a couple of front end slips and one fall..
can you get wider tyres on these?
i dont know the implications of wider tyres on bikes as im still getting used to bikes over cars.
any help would be great.
cheers!

currently on -
front - 275 - 18
rear - 300 - 18 - 52j

The brand of tire will do more for traction... Buy BT-45's in the width recommended for the rim width... Wider tires will only wreck the profile, I learned this the hard way.
Anyway, I've had nothing but confidence with BT-45's, my front end has never slipped out on me.

It all depends on what you consider road rash worth...
3 things you don't cheap out on are brakes, tires and a helmet.
