I always laugh when they cite fuel economy as a benefit of boosted engines. First off - it's nonsense and second off -- who cares?

It was a play on words Lane. But truthfully, i never have liked turbo's, blowers or nitrus. Takes the "talent" out of tuning....... :wtf:

Ah John, you're becoming a curmudgeon  Turbo engines are very difficult to tune - they just require different talent and 'outer skills. A good turbo tuner can pull hidden horsepower from relatively tame engines. All those turkeys who bolt turbos onto Civics call themselves tuners but for the most part they don't have a clue.

About six months before the release of the Gen II 14 there were drawing circulating around the web of a supercharged engine that was patented by Kawasaki, it was thought to be for a water craft but rumors flew around about it being the new Super Bike. One of the reasons fueling the rumors is the odd design of the 14 motor, it has a huge Hump under the throttle bodies (almost said carbs) where the rear counter balancer is mounted and it has a big gear that is driven directly off the crank. There are two counterbalances and that led many to speculate that the second one could be removed and a gear driven supercharger installed about where it shows in the linked-to photograph.

Of course the new ZX14 motor was not supercharged. But when a couple of simple tweaks were made to the bike it made 220RWHP so the whiners were happy.

On a related note, a buddy of mine put a small turbo on his 14, only runs it at 5psi of boost, very nice, streetable, smooth as silk and tame motor, that makes 330 RWHP. Twist the throttle in sixth at 60mph and you go to 150mph effortlessly and so quick it will get you in trouble. I can't imagine any responsible company putting forced induction on a bike like the 14.

On a second related note, you can buy almost new ZX14 motors all day long for about $2,000, complete motors with less than 1,000 miles, and you can guess why they are so plentiful.

Same for H2 motors, when I wrecked mine in 1978 there were tons of motors and engine parts - you can imagine why they were so plentiful.

The challenge for Kawasaki to build a decent looking bike around that motor, something they have been unable to do in the last couple of years !!!!

The only decent street bikes Big K built since the last KH250 left the assembly line were the KR250A and the KR1/KR1-S!
