Post subject:  Can You Paint The Bodywork on a New Kawasaki Nija 1000?
I'm probably going to buy one, but I want to change the color. This may seem ignorant, but I don't know if the bodywork is plastic or fiberglass and if you can sucessfully paint it without it easily scratching.

Thanks for any info.

It's done all the time. Just use good paint and prep.

The preparation of plastic components is critical, and must be done correctly - it's not really a job for a non-professional. (I am a spray-painter). The correct plastic primer and flex-aids make or break a job on plastic components!!

True comments above. Painting success is all about preparation first, and then choosing correct materials for the substrate. Cutting corners and rushing a job is a pathway to re-doing a lot of hard work. I just finished all the panels on my 74 H2 and thought I could apply the last layers of clear coat on the tank one summer morning when the humidity happened to be elevated. Big mistake. The humidity was captured into the clear coat and fogged the finish. My heart sank. I then had to carefully mask off the unprotected decals and wet sand off all the fouled clear coat without cutting through into the paint. My plan worked but blew my schedule and was an unnecessary waste of time. Had I waited just a few hours, I would have saved a lot of re-work.
