I have a bunch of baseball cards from when I was a kid. I am not that old so neither are the cards, mostly mid to late 80's and early 90's. Some complete sets and a few binders and the shoe box full. I don't have any interest in them and really don't need them laying around collecting dust anymore. Without buying a guide and spending hours upon hours looking every card up, how do I go about selling them without getting totally ripped off? I am not looking for top dollar, but I don't want to get a dollar for something worth a hundred either. Can you really trust a card shop?

I used to work for a guy that was a big baseball card collector, and he told me that "rookie" cards were the ones that had the most potential to become valuable.
You might look through what you have and see if you have any rookie cards of well-known players and check prices of them as a start.

my brother used to be deep into baseball cards...that was 10+ years ago, but I doubt the biz has changed much. I know he used to do a lot of "trading" with local shops, and I don't think anybody tried to rip anyone off.

If it were me, I would start doing completed-items searches on ebay as a start and then get a few different shops evaluations.. make an average of the three and there ya go.
