I dunno Rick, people buy what they want for a lot of reasons. It's not always price or comfort etc. I love my Harley for many reasons - and I'll tell you a lot of that is it's style/looks - and feel. Metric cruisers while OK just are not the same and not for me.

I rode a buddies Indian 10+ years ago and although I really liked the style it was a POS mechanically - everything was loose and sloppy. He rode my FatBoy and was amazed how tight and well it handled compared to his Indian. (don't start anything you guys....)

You've had a Harley before and run a different path now - to each his own. My HD is my mule to pull my trailer and make long trips in relative comfort. I've a buddy who loves his SV but for 2-up riding his passenger does not.

Just to make an example, my 2001 HD has some hard miles on it and still looks and runs great. I did have to replace lifters (and did a cam and gear-drive upgrade while I had the chance) but that was due to Royal Purple turning to sand and ruining some parts - not HDs fault. Otherwise I've not done anything else mechanical. These engines are well known to run 100K miles easily without and major work and are proving it.

They're also incredibly easy to work on compared to the metric cruisers. Note: I think Victory gets the major +1 though for ease of maintenance - very well designed mechanically (but to my eye they're butt ugly). We'll see how the Indian plays out.

Thank you Polaris for perpetuating the American motorcycle design.......and NOTcoming up with a REAL motorcycle !!! Polaris is actually saying "Choice is coming to America".....WHAT !!!.....I'd suggest they take a long look at the offerings of companies such as Honda, Kawasaki, Triumph, BMW, etc...etc...etc..... I'm going to write home about her face right after this post! While I'm glad the Indian name wound up somewhere, it's not a bike I would want. The name, one of the greatest, has been kicked around and sponged-off-of for decades. At least Polaris will do it right and be in it for the long run.

I'm not knocking anyones choice....and i like the Indian name being out there again....I'm just just making the point that polaris likely has the ability to create something different; get competitive with the rest of the market offerings rather than build something they already have. I suggested looking at the range of motorcycle types the Japanese, Britts, and Germans have. But of course Polaris knows their market better than I do...I'm just wishing (dreaming) for an AMERICAN line-up.

The competition would be rough for them no matter what. Like I said earlier - I think the quality is what sunk them last time - they really were poorly designed and built. Word got out about that - and lack of parts/support in the future did them in. Maybe Polaris and their name too - can do better.
