I find myself with a dilemma that when I describe is going to make me sound like a spoiled brat, though I assure you that's not the case. I have a chance to buy my dream car, but it would involve selling the Corvette, and probably the H1 and dipping heavily into me savings. I love my Corvette and H1, the question is would I love a Viper more? Year(96-02), color(blue w/ stripes), body style(GTS coupe) are all exactly what I want. It's in my price range because the one I'm looking at is banged up from the owner sliding it into a pole. The only real damage is the drivers door, which needs replacing, the rest is superficial and it's got a clean Carfax and Autocheck. I really don't know what to do...

If it means dipping heavily into savings, I wouldn't do it.... but that's me.

I'm with Dale on this, you get older and more financially conservative. But I know when there is something I really want, I mull it over a LOT, and usually the "gotta have it" subsides. If you would really use it, then go for it. If it will just sit a lot, I wouldn't. Also factor in insurance and upkeep, tires are very expensive and short lived.

I wanted the baby Ninja bad since the 08's came out. Finally got one, and have barely ridden it. :banghead

You raise good points, and I've already given it a good amount of though. I've checked on insurance already, and it's surprisingly reasonable, about the same as my Corvette. I also know I'd use it a lot too. The Vette(a '73 by the way) is my daily driver when it's not snowing, averaging 10,000 miles a year. I'm not the type to let perfectly drivable vehicles sit for any length of time when it's not salty out. With the Vette sold, I'd have enough savings left for a comfortable "cushion" if I were to lose my job or something.

My take is that if you want it and can afford it,do it..Life is too short to mull over these things too long..also precious metal over here at least as proven to be better than money in the bank.

with a clean carfax/auto check, it sounds like (after bodywork) the Viper will be worth MORE once you are finished fixing it up.

How can you go wrong?

like Kas said, life is short. If you've always wanted a Viper, give it a go.

<- Likes Vettes (especially pre 1975) more than Vipers. Plus you said sell your triple -

I havent whatched vipers very much but I would only spend large amounts of money on toys that will appreciate in value. I dont know enough about vipers to really know but it is probably to new to appreciate much.

I was one of the only frame guys in So. Ca that would do frame work on Vipers. They are a handfull in the wet and if you hit a curb
something is going to bend. The GTS is a great looking car but it's like a Corvette with poorer build quality. If there is any chance it's tweeked, pass. Here is a picture of a later spyder I repaired several years ago. I had to make my own spec sheet from the manufactures drawings.
