My experiences in CA were always a nightmare, an all day visit standing in lines and usually required more than one trip to get anything done. Not so here: Was at DMV just now - VERY civilized. You can go on the web and see what the wait times are, how many people in queue etc. When you get there a host asks what you're there for, gives you a number. You wait in a really nice - huge waiting area with flat panels with news on, and a lot of flat panels showing 10 numbers in queue, and they even have a computerized audio announcement for the numbers. When called to a clerk it says #326 to counter 11 where you sit at a nice cube across from the clerk and talk in a rational, comfortable manner. Trez chiq~ I was in/out in 15 mins. Usually that fast. |

I had to go to the one here last week, Barry. I needed to get the license plate transferred from the old van to the other old van. I walked in to the 2-clerk office, and neither window had anyone waiting. I chose the left one and told the woman what I needed to do. She pulled out the form, filled in the stuff for me, showed me where to sign, and I handed her the $15 fee. I left with my new registration in less than five minutes. When I lived in the DC suburbs, it was very different. |

CA is like that now except the wait times can be longer. When I go it is usually about 30 minutes. |

I usually try and never go to the CA DMV. I have a AAA membership and do all the DMV stuff there that I can. About six months ago I had to go to the DMV to have the engine number changed on the title for my H2. Had a appointment and was there for 2 hours. First they told me that they can't check a engine vin there and I had to go to the CHP. Well I told the guy I had called the CHP and was told to go to the DMV for vin verification. I then told the guy, look, I took off work to do this and I'm not too happy. He got a supervisor and finally someone came out and looked at my bike. I did get the title changed, but it wasn't easy. They don't even know how to follow there own rules ![]() |
