Post subject: | helmet issues on a cold morning |
My street riding experience has been limited to the occasional sunny day on the old S2 and my helmet was always one of my motocross units with goggles. I've recently bought a street helmet, a Z1R and it has a visor. My sons car broke down and I lent him my work and back car... I took the triple in to work this morning. It was fairly cold and my visor did nothing but fog up. Tried vents open, closed, etc--no change. (which would be better?) For whatever reason, the tinted strip at the top was not foggy so I was peering through that the whole way. Really narrowed my visibility... What am I doing wrong here? Did not have the fog issue on sunny afternoons with this new helmet. Thanks for any advice! Neil |

Do you keep the helmet outside in the garage or inside a warm house....? |

There are some products like Rain-X Anti-Fog that I've used, and they work well. |

Helmet is kept in the house. No garage. ![]() This morning I put some safety glasses on and left the visor cracked a bit. Was cold, but did not fog up at least. Had my rather large stanley thermos strapped to the tail section as well. Good lord man. Need a back pack. Among the other two wheeled oddities I have is an old Tomos moped that was an abandoned project of one of my son's. Of course it has a big bore kit and an expansion chamber and will haul even my rather large heavy self to about 45 mph. Im not a real man until I take THAT to work. ![]() |

Like Jim said, there are anti fogging sprays available... Itech is a brand used in hockey. It helps to have an overbite and breath through your mouth... ![]() A quick crack of the visor open should clear things up in seconds, I ride in cold weather quite often and rarely have issues over 10 mph... It's a given you'll need to rise the visor a crack when moving slow or stopped. |

Dish soap works too. No water, just soap -- a drop or two inside the glass and rub with a cloth until you can't see a haze. |

I found for fogging what works great for me is dawn dish detergent. Clean and dry shield. Apply Dawn with fingers (no water just dawn) and then rub off with a soft cloth. |

I bought some stuff at the NYC bike show that is awesome. Actually got it for cleaning+polishing my glasses. Just like with the dish soap. you put a dab on your finger and mess it around so its all coated. Then wipe dry and buff with the towel that came with it. Works great at cleaning glasses, but even better at stopping the full face fog. I will dig it out and get the brand name. |
