KLR's anyone?

Post subject:  KLR's anyone?
I'm fascinated with the true dual sport bikes and would like to pick up a good older KLR to ride some gravel and explore. I have a friend local that rides long distance and dirt too with his. Sounds horrible clicking and poppity popping down the road. Seems like it would be a pain on the slab. I hoping there are a few Kwackers here that have some experience with the thumpers? And I would want to ride two up also........?

You would get bored with a KLR in the same amount of time it took for you to read this.

From what I have read about them, they make decent road machines, and good for gravel roads maybe a 2 lane jeep road. Anything more than that for offroad and you will proabably be hating life. I would not classify them as a true dualsport.

Love my 08 KLR. They don't do anything great, just do everything. The 08 and newer are more street oriented.

First off...I couldn't imagine any fun to be had two-up on the dirt/trails etc..

I have a KLX250 that I bored to 351. I love it !
Its a freakin' hoot under any circumstances. Except two-up.

Trail riding, playing in the dirt....my 2 cents.....less weight is everything, everything, everything !!!

Two-up you're just going to be on dirt/gravel/fire service roads....and you will, even on them, go down.

Ric, two up, I'm talking access on dirt roads or gravel to get to a trail to do some hiking, maybe some inaccessible sightseeing, nothing more. I agree dirt is for one up exclusively. To be honest, I was more concerned with the street capabilites of the thing. Lots' of folks ride them all over the place but I question the wisdom of it. Thump thump.
Cody......I get bored easily so I probably wouldn't get to finish the sentence. Always nice to hear the skinny from my smoker brethren. :mrgreen:

Hey Bill, long time no see!

One of my buddies has a KLR and honestly its a bit of a turd. Big, heavy, and gutless for the displacement size. Check out the adventure bikes from Triumph, KTM, Duc, Husky

The Army used the KLR for airborne Troops, I saw some KLR's get wrecked on an air drop they hit hard :o

If the army bought them I know I don't want em. The pentagon can't procure a decent toilet seat.


Hell, I might off this whole idea and buy me a Ninja 250r for my commute. My "new" job now entails a 70 mile round trip ride every day. Gas is tickleing $4 a gallon. That thing would probably beat me to death though......sorry, just thinking aloud.
