We have red light cameras in own town now. That's fine. I can deal with them, just watch for folks slamming on thier brakes being terrified of a yellow light. Now comes phase two of big brothers plan. Little town here called Elmwood Place. Pop. 5000 just rolled out a little mobile auto radar gun and camera and banked 2.1 million the first month. That's 20000 tickets. Yikes. But ahem, it's not about money. It's just about safety........BS. One of those heavily traveled 50 mph roads with 30mph posted. You know the drill. Safe roads, no schools, no accident problems, no merges, just a stretch of road.
The state of Ohio is seeking to farm out State Police radar to a company that will monitor speed with radar and send you a little prize in the mail. No more personal touch. And to boot, no leeway. Hey I'm sure they'll give you a couple for good measure just to be real princes about it. I have a 35 mile commute, will probably add 20 minutes each way drive time for me. The age of what's good fer ya...........wether you like it or not. Seems a lot of that's been going on recent years. But I won't point any fingers.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the public unions will fight it when they get wind the administrators plan to lay off some jack boots with all the unused labor hours hangin. I can dream.

Really be great when they roll those out at the gap, we can just keep the bikes on the trailer as conversation peices and get liquored up.

We had mobile photo radar in Ontario for a while, run by officers in white mini vans. Those vans soon became known and caused panic braking on the highways wherever they were employed. The provincial government that instituted it was not re-elected and it was ditched...thank goodness.

Albuquerque had red light/speed cams for a few years. they got rid of them about a year ago. Here, it is a civil matter, and not DMV, so if you don't pay, they had to sue you for it. So of course most didn't pay. the company that ran the camera's charged millions to run them. So the city ended up loosing money, and they took them down. And they were also on some state roads, and illegal anyway. The city is now suing people to get the money. Some owed thousands of dollars. They still have the vans though.

Here in Rio Rancho, the red lights cams went up about a year ago, and there is a speed van or 2 around. We just deal with them. I see them go off a lot sitting at a lights, with the traffic going the other way running reds.

A cop told me one time, it's all about time management. And I agree......

I live on one of those roads and I wish they would hand out 20,000 tickets in a month. We had to train the kids to not go anywhere near the front yard and the wife or kid won't cut the grass in the front yard, all because people don't want to add time to the commute to somewhere. It is not adding time to your commute by abiding the law, you were only cutting time off of it by breaking it.

So, if I understand correctly, people are being penalized for breaking the law? Oh the humanity!

A lot of those tickets are easy to fight. You have to be able to be identified as the driver of the vehicle at the time of issued ticket. If you can't be identified, it wasn't you.

Overpaid legislators can make the law a very arbitrary thing.............!! ( Let's see, we'll lower the "speed" limit everywhere, hide cameras, employ less policing, and make a killing - we'll call them "safety cameras"! Then we can pay ourselves 4 times the average wage, If we privatize it!) What - me cynical!!

Puleeez, I am aware of safety issues. The said robo speed trap is NOT in a residential area and does NOT have pedestrians, by reasonable standards it is just not a 30mph road. And as far as me speeding to get to work your right. I do 5 over 65 mph limit at 70mph and am regularly passed by 70% of traffic. Here in Ohio they give you 5 mph and anything over that depends on what side of the bed the cop got up on. Over 75 expect a ticket 100%. My point was that folks slowing down to 55mph - 60mph to "make sure" they don't inch over the limit and get hammered creates bottlenecks and much worse slow downs than 5 or 10 less mph indicate. I feel like I posted in a PTA meeting.
