Neat concept. Might work alright for generators and the like, but it won't work well in a vehicle. There is simply to much rotating mass for quick acceleration and deceleration. It's the same reason turbines aren't practical for cars, they don't like changing speeds either. The only way I can see it working is of it's paired up with a CV transmission or a Turbo Encabulator. |

Did you watch to the end Jeff? spinning mass 15lbs less than comparable engine. Though the weigh is farther out from center. |

I agree Jeff, that rotating mass made me think it would only be suited for a stationery motor. Plus, how are you supposed to get the power drive off it, and you would have to encase it all inside another container for health and safety. It is good however that people keep thinking "out of the box" and dram up these fresh ideas. |

The rotating mass can't be that much lighter and live for a reasonable length of time. It's akin to holding a Wankel rotary by the crankshaft and spinning the rest of the block around the rotor. The spinning drum could have a ring rear around it, or the end of the drum could have an outer/inner shaft arrangement with a gear on the outer, and crankshaft support on the inner. |
