Got my nitrous hooked back up on my 5.0 (85 carburated GT) woo hooo ! I forgot how much fun it is on nitrous. Had a little melt down (1st one ever in over 25 years) and smoked a valve seat. Fixed it put it back together last spring but was reluctant to hook the nitrous back up. Did it today (my son was pushing me). It has been running so good I have just been enjoying it but after today I sure did miss that extra 100 hp.

Just a few light mods. H-pipe, pullys, flowmaster 3 chambers, intake, 8.8 with 3.73's, and southside lift bars, subframe conectors, holley blue pump. Wow more than I thought. Stock long block, has 43K original miles and one owner me! I ordered the car in 85 picked it up in July. I have taken it to the track occasionally the best et was 12.75 @ 109.73. Slow be today's standard but it is a street car.

12.75 is no slouch! 8-)

Your car is in beautiful shape! :o

I love 5.0s. I had an 88LX five speed. Had Griggs racing springs, subframe connectors, lower control arms, Koni adjustables, caster camber plates, the Lincoln 11in front disc brake set up with cross drilled rotors and larger calipers, I can't remember what size throttle body I had on it, but it was the Ford Motorsport one with a larger Mass Air Sensor, JBA firecone shorty headers, 2.5 inch off road H-pipe with three chamber Flowmasters dumped at the rearend, 3.73 gears with a T-5 world class tranny and a RAM clutch. Oh and a strut tower brace. With the five star pony wheels and 225/50/16 up front and 245/45/16 in the rear Bridgestone Protenza RE71 tires, that thing handled like it was on rails. I always said I'd get another one some day.

I had a buddy with the same suspsension set up, but his motor was built! DSS short block with main support, low compression pistons, custom grind cam, edelbrock aluminum heads, extrude and honed intakes, JBA headers, Vortech S-trim super charger (14lbs of boost), and the Vortech after cooler. He had 32lb injectors and some big pump pushing it all. I can't remember. It has been over ten years since I've had mine and was around his.

They were awesome cars for their time. Now we have 300hp compact sedans on the road. It amazes me! I still find myself comparing HP ratings to the 225hp of a 5.0. Force of habit.

Walms, sweet car, Im a sucker for the early foxes. Is it am original GT 5.0 ? As for the newer cars they are awsome. The new 5.0's are running high twelves low 13's off the show room floor, awsome machines. The only advantage the old fox platform is they are much lighter than the new cars. One big advantage for my 5.0, its paid for !

The new ones look sweet as well... It's funny that in the 80's and 90's I was always reminded that my mustang would never be sought after.
Now on the mustang boards, "the 4 eyed fox" is loved by all it seems.

Yes, an original 5 Litre, not really stock but it looks that way.

Nice Carl!, and Walms already knows I dig his car too...
I had an '87 5.0 LX 5spd for a couple of years and did the typical stuff to it, 3.73 gears, cold air intake, etc. Never nitrous though...

I sold it and the proceeds went to the down payment on my first house.

Last year a retired MN State Trooper LX Notchback showed up on the local craigslist for $3000.00. SUPER clean car with (if memory serves) 70,000 miles. I wanted it.

I've never tried nitrous either... The original motor came with cast pistons so that would have been a no-no... Although I did manage to crack a piston skirt anyway without any help!
Instead of rebuilding the original motor, I opted for a J302 motor from a 98 explorer.
For those who don't know, the J302 sported a cast iron version of the GT40 heads and upper and lower intake. I sold the intake for almost 1/2 the cost of the long block... Now I have forged pistons, roller block and a 1 piece rear main seal.
I wasn't floored by the performance with the new motor though, I'm guessing a B303 cam would wake it up though. My original motor with ported heads and a lumpy ford Motorsport cam made noticeably more power.
Other than that, I have Koni adjustable struts, KYB shocks, FMS springs, late 80's sway bars, 8.8 diff with 355 gears, close ratio rack, stainless shortie headers with 2-1/2" exhaust, torkerII intake and Holley 600 cfm carb.
Also I put a 86gt interior and turbo coupe rims.

Parts I have but not installed yet are crown Victoria brakes and sub frame connectors... I've owned the car since I graduated from college in 86 and have resisted all pressures from various people to sell it... Recently I've been thinking a bit about it so I can have more space for bikes in the garage but unless I get an offer that blows me away, I'm sure it will stay where it is! :)

The 85 is my favorite fox though... That was the year ford got it right, other than the faux dual exhaust.
