No Hockey this season sucks ! The only sport I watch is hockey, they couldnt make an agreement so no NHL season this year. It cant be good for the sport, especially one that has always struggled except for a few of the top franchises. I guess I will have more time for winter projects than !

The junior touney starts on the 26th... I'll be glued to that over the holidays!

Thanks Walms that was great !! exactly how I feel I grew up just downriver of Detroit and have played several Midjet and Juinior tournys in Toronto in the 70's with little success. You Canucks are kings of hockey, I salute Canada !

Hopefully Carl and Andrew, this BS wont hurt the game and fans like the baseball strike shortened season did to that sport.

Hockey is an amazing sport...the fastest contact sport on earth (NASCAR doesn't count). I feel bad for kids who would make Hockey Night in Canada the best part of their week. It's sad this has come down to a pissing contest between people who make more money than most of us could dream of.

Canadian lawmaker: Let amateurs play for the cup


EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — A member of the Canadian parliament says the Stanley Cup should be awarded to an amateur team if the NHL labor fight isn't settled in time to save the season.

Brent Rathgeber (RATH'-gay-buhr) suggests the cup could be the prize in a national competition to determine the best non-pro team in Canada.

A group of recreational players made a similar suggestion during the 2004-05 lockout, when they argued in court that Lord Stanley's cup wasn't the exclusive property of the NHL.

An out-of-court settlement back then said the cup's trustees have the option - but not the obligation - of awarding the prize to another team if there is no NHL champion.

Writing on his blog, Rathgeber points out the trustees' original purpose was to promote amateur hockey in Canada.

I went on a deer hunt in Manitoba some years ago, and the guide took us to a local arena for a hockey game. It wasn't a pro game, but they were adults, not kids, so I'm not sure what level/league it was...but what a hoot! The heckling of the opposing team, and the spectator participation was awesome. What a good time it was. They sure love their hockey up there.

Man was that a frigging cold hunt...wasn't sure I was gonna make it .
