Apple QuickTime (its on most windows computers) plays mp4s with no problem. To get mp4s to work with windows media player or windows movie maker, I needed to use a DivX converter.......

This is why I don't bother with buying modern electronic crap....just having to type all this isn't worth it. I got a GoPro Hero 2. Learned how to operate it and made some pictures and a couple videos. I can see the pictures fine. Can't play the videos. I'm running Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio - should be plenty of horsepower. I'm using a Sandisk 16 GB Class 10 SDHC card. Put SDHC card in computer and drag/drop files into a folder. Click on video file and get the Windows Media Player up with this pop-up window saying: " The selected file has an extension(.MP4) that is not recognized by Windows Media Player, but the Player may still be able to play it. Because the extension is unknown by the Player, you should be sure that the file comes from a trustworthy source. Do you want the Player to try and play this content ?" I hit "Yes" and get this message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or a required codec might not be installed on your computer." So....I do a search for the codec and come across so much different crap that wants to download even more players I thought i'd ask here..... I will not use or otherwise download RealPlayer. I made that mistake once and it took over my computer. What can I do to watch these videos with Window Media Player ??? Anyone have an easy fix for me....otherwise I'm going to pull an office space printer scene on it tomorrow. |

Go to Cnet.com. They have a Downloads section. Search for VLC player for windows. Download and install that. That is a media player that will play anything. I believe you could also just google VLC media player and it will probably take you the VLC website. I rarely use any other media player just because VLC handles it all. |

What dem other two dudes say or what I like is KMPlayer and can be downloaded here http://www.kmpmedia.net/ You'll like it too cause it's great fer da porn. The gopro mp4 format is great for viewing but not editing. I run Corel Studio Pro video editing software. Use the gopro cineform studio software to convert the mp4 format and use the converted file to edit. The little gopro also works great as a player hook to a HD TV. You will need a HDMI cable with the little end to the regular size for the TV. That way you will not have to screw around on the puter. Good luck |

Let us know if stuff from cnet does not help. OR go to filehippo.com and download a player. I know you're not interested in getting a good set of codecs for windows player otherwise I'd tell you about that... |

Thanks for the help guys..... I went to CNet intending to download the VLC player. In searching that player out I came across a codec package claiming to solve all the worlds problems so I downloaded that and it work !!! I had previously tried a codec package that didn't work. The video I've made is not in the best light and I'm jiggling around a bit so.....the picture looks good but not necessarily HD quality (as far as I know) and it's not wide screen. Are there settings in the camera I need to play with ? Gezzzz.....I hate fooling around with computer stuff.....it takes hours to accomplish anything....hence, I really do appreciate the help. |

Yes there are settings you need to "play" with. The 1080 setting gives you the wide (right to left) and more narrow (top to bottom). The 960-30 with give you less right to left but more top to bottom. Just get outside and play with the darn thing(the camera that is). If you don't have them yet get you a suction cup mount and the roll bar mount. Stick one of the sticky mounts on the top and side of your helmet. And for them special moments there is a parameter to turn off all those led's and the sound  Since I paid 300 bucks for my GP2 just before DG this year and you saved 180 bucks-from now on answers will cost you a beer each.

Look at your knobs and you should find one with a shaft that is a little longer than the other ones you have. That is the one that she likes the best. |

Good job Rick - the codec pack is what I was talking about. When I got my GoPro I spent a lot of time making test runs using different settings for picture type and quality - trying most of the ones I thought would work - the manual is pretty good about describing them too which helped. Brackets: I made a Universal one for not only the H2 but also the harley. But honestly, the Helmet sticky mount seems to be the best overall (for me). Knobs/swivels: From gopro you can order another kit and it has a larger selection of bits than what comes in the box. Being hamfisted I broke one of the tabs on the push latch. But the additional knobs and swivels in the kit have come in handy. Looks like they've changed it around a little. http://gopro.com/camera-mounts Additional: Wind noise plagued me - many ways to fix it though - easy Google for how. A popular choice is sacrificing a Teddy Bear. I could not do that and went a Foam route. |
