I was in the shop yesterday emptying 5 gallon buckets full of used motor oil, hydraulic fluid and diesel into our 55 gallon drum used oil barrel with the help of my part number 1 son. Then I set to cleaning out a place to park Project RD and the parts RD for final assembly after I fetch it from the house of Haase sometime in December or very shortly after the first of the year. I was standing beside a 7.5 foot high wooden shelf that also supported a prop that we use to keep the building from sagging when we get a big snow ( about 200 pounds of stuff at the very least). My back was to the shelf, (which BTW is full of long bolts and rake teeth among other things and had a bunch of hydraulic hoses for hooking up implements to the tractors draped on top of it). The shelf should have been secured to the end of the workbench and I thought it had been for all these years. I must have bumped it just right and it fell, striking me in the back of the head and back, and collapsed on top of me. I managed to have presence of mind enough to pick my face up just before impact and didn't break my glasses or put my eyes out. Jesse had already gone inside so my shouts for help went unheard. It took me about 20 minutes to get my senses back enough to wiggle around and get twisted to where I could get braced and use my legs to get it off me enough to crawl out. By the grace of God I wasn't impaled by any of the sharp things and my skull didn't get mashed . The hoses softened the impact somewhat. I am so very lucky to have escaped with a very sore neck and back and some gouge and abrasion to my right shoulder and back. No knots on my head or any symptoms of concussion and I woke up this morning so all seems well neurologically
or at least as good as I get anyway... I am very stove up and sore. Heading out to the shop and to the CO-OP to get some High Mag minerals for the cows, then I have to do an oil change on part number 1 son's car. I am OK and will be my old self again soon... It took 2 hours to pick up all the stuff that flew out of the shelf and rolled out onto the shop floor. The hoses have been relocated as well.
