I was thinking of building one a few years ago so I could blast around in the lake, and then drive it to the garage. Then it occurred to me that getting one up a narrow, uphill road through the woods would mean bumping all the trees, pinball machine style. Then someone who had been near one running told me that they are obnoxiously loud all the time they are running. I found something else to occupy my time and money. It would still be neat someday. |

I've piloted several recreational versions and they're a hoot I sell Kohler industrial engines to two mfr's of them. They are extremely noisy, and with all that wind, you'll find plenty of gravel and other things in your hair. Hovercraft are not like driving anything else, for a rookie, a boat ramp is impossible to climb. If I ever fall through ice anywhere, I want a hovercraft to rescue me...they're fast as hell and ice/water/snow makes no difference. |

Just how smooth a surface do they need? Would they work on a tilled farm field, or is that to rough? |
