I found an article on the net about tuning a T500, which included photos of a modified crankcase and crankshaft with stuffers. The flywheels were reduced in diameter and aluminium rings were made to take up the excess space. No mention was made of the exact diameter reduction but judging by the photos I estimate the stuffers as 4-5 mm thick, which would mean a reduction in flywheel diameter of 8-10 mm. Just out of curiosity, does anybody know the exact figure? Elsewhere I found a remark that the flywheels were reduced to the diameter of the GT750's but that is no help as I don't know the GT750 diameter either!

Take off as much as you dare, thickness as well. They weigh a ton. I do not have a crank here to measure sorry, but at least 5mm off thickness. Take off the inside of the flywheels down to the level of the big end thrust face. If you spend a coupleof weeks of time and heaps of $ it will go nearly as well as an H1 :-)

I didn't want to say anything, but I read the article when it came out. After machinning the crank, adding stuffers, porting and chambers to match the porting, and maybe carbs, it was as fast as a stock Kawi 500.......... :wtf: I had to laugh, being a kawi guy and all......

Kevin Cameron wrote in his article on H2-R development (May or June 1974 issue of "Cycle") that the factory had tried full-circle cranks during H2-R development but that the results were negative, so the stock crank flywheels were retained.

T500s, in my experience, do not respond kindly to many engine mods. They are a lazy long lasting torquey engine, designed for long distances at sensible rpms, reliable and trustworthy....everything the Kawasakis are not!! Yes, the cranks are heavy, this makes for a smoother engine. The long wheelbase makes for a nice safe and comfortable ride. A Ktriple would never do the miles a Titan will.  :P JP will prove me wrong on this maybe. Ive done 100000 and more miles on T500s in my life time... half way to the moon nearly, the best bike ever made, and one of the best 2 stroke engines ever made... a WW2 design from Czechoslovakia I believe.
