still trying to iron out my YZ465 that I got this year. My first race, the jetting was off a bit, it had a gurgly midrange. But, it still felt great, powerful and gutsy.

Long story short, I changed the main and the needle and got it smooth all the way through. BUT....the second race I had on it was weird. It seemed that the whole powerband was alot shorter. I was switching gears sooner, they seemed to run out way too quick. It seems weird that jetting would change how the bike felt like that but the more I thought about it..... I think with the dirty midrange, the midrange was not delivering the stupid hit that thing puts out now, so my acceleration through the whole range was hindered before. Now its really quick, them mid hits hard, too hard. The ass end breaks loose way to quick, and I am switching gears too much, the gears seem too short overall.

I am running a 14t front sprocket, for the next race I put a 16 on. I hope to stretch the thing out and to tame that hit down a bit. I got to think it has enough ass to compensate for the taller gearing. Does it make sense that the jetting actually changed the personality so much and is 2 teeth too much to change? Crappy thing is it would be real hard to test ride it. I guess I really have to.

two teeth on the front is a big jump. Worth a try I guess......

It was right on!!! It stretched everything out. I was still starting in second, and still grabbing third 3/4 way down the chute. Only I was going much faster. I actually led almost a whole lap, but then I went down in some really deep mud when the rear end came around. It still pulls the front wheel off the ground, but mostly when I want it to. Its more tractable overall, but still goes nuts if you leave the gas on long enough, just takes a tiny bit longer to "come on"...but no problem because the power leading up to that point is still good, and all usable.

I had a small jetting issue crop up though. My first moto, it was smooth as silk. As the day went on, it started with thing where after revving and closing the throttle, it would take a moment to settle down, usually thats a lean condition in my experience. Turning the air screw in calmed that a bit but then the bottom got a bit dirty. So I think I need to go with a larger pilot jet to richen up the bottom...the rest of it seemed happy with where my air screw wound up. It had gotten alot hotter outside between the first and later motos so I guess that had the effect of leaning me out overall.

Raced it this weekend.....I did another 2nd gear start and it wheelied right away and I had to shut off and put it down before I wound up on my back...so then I thought as much ass as this thing has, I bet I could pull off in third...so I praticed a slow gentle take off in third and it did fine so that was my strategy for the second moto: easy pull off, low RPMs in third, and then as soon as I was rolling, I opened the throttle all the way. Everyone beat me off the line as I was easing it in but about 3 seconds later I caught them all and wound up way out front on nice gradual wheelie. I however went into a white knuckle panic because Im not used to being that far out front, and after about half a lap, my throttle hand cramped up hard and that was it...had to slow down and stretch my hand out for half a lap. SUre was fun anyway!!!! :D The power of that bike is amazing.

I've had to IT465's essentially same bike or close enough. Loved them - best enduro bike I've ever had.
