Wife is getting interested and I need your suggestions what to start looking for. Thinking maybe a 200 to 350 with electric start. The CB350 might be a good choice but are there other options? Yamaha RD200 maybe? Which would be better for a new rider, a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke or should we be looking at which has better features such as disc brakes?

Thanx, Rusty

My wife just started riding last April on a Honda Rebel 250. Its a very light bike, low seat and electric start. In 3 months she was ready for a bigger bike
and we sold it for just what we paid for it. Buy a clean used bike, the Rebels hold there value. We only paid 1250 and the bike was super clean.

What he said. They use them in the motorcycle safety classes for a reason.

The smaller Ninjas are good bikes. The 250 and 500. Smaller is the way to go.

The Nighthawk 250 is easier to ride, but the styling of the little Rebel seems to win everyone over, plus it does have a nice low seat.

Great reliable machines that are super simple to work on, even the valve adjustment is a cake walk.

I also like the Suzuki TU250, but, I think I am the only one.....

Oh - resale on the Rebel is incredible, you can generally sell them for what you paid, sometimes more.

At 6'4" and 245lbs, I looked hilarious on the Rebel, but I sure smile all the way!

Older Ninja 250 is another good choice, they are cheap, just avoid anything with more than 15,000 miles or with any mods.

Only problem with a 250 is they get outgrown very quickly.

I wanted to get my wife a Shadow 750 RS for her first motorcycle -

I just "restored" a nice KH250 for my wife. There are drawbacks to putting your loved one on an "old clunker" -- but I have to say, when you follow her down the road and hear the sound and see the smoke...it's pretty cool! As for the kick starter: you can start this little bike with your hand.

Honda VLX.(600) It's physicaly small, but not tiny.Actualy passes for a full size bike.Very easy to maintain. Has enough steem for the highway but not enough grunt to frighten her. Four stroke is the way to go for a NEWBY. Especialy a lady. They're also very cheap! It was my wifes first bike. Bought it for $425. Sold it two years later for $700. (Don't tell anyone I ever spoke well of a honda) :silent:

I learnt on a lil 2 stroke motorcross which some said would be waaaay too much bike for me to learn on  pffffffffft, it was tall, but light, kick starting her was a bit of a b**ch, but I learnt easily and sooooooooooooo much fun - the Kaw KX85. I now have a Ninja 250 which is nice and low to the ground, heavy like hell, but also LOTS of fun, powerful and fast!!!!
