This is for a used vintage 2 cycle mower that I am interested in purchasing in Texas. Owner is an older gent of 76 years of age and doesn't use Paypal. What would be the best and safest way I can protect myself in payment type for purchase? Talked at length with him on the phone and all seems and sounds good. He's going to check into shipping costs for the mower. I know of these options: bank wire, cashiers check from my Credit Union, and USPS money order. I'm also looking and have a request out on a mower forum of someone possibly in the area he lives that can inspect the mower for me (will compensate for their time). Which route would you take and what other safeguards and precautions should I exercise?

It was in Ft Worth but he traded it today for other stuff. Can't say I blame him as a local deal is always easier. Oh well, the search continues..... ;)

I know Lawn Boy used to be 2 stroke, did Toro make one ? If the guy was 76, I doubt he wanted to hassle with shipping.

I'm a noobie to the Lawn Boy world but I think Toro bought LB and it was their down fall.

I have a Lawn Boy I'm about to get going. Unless Evans we could work a trade for your triple. I'd deliver the Lawn Boy to you for no charge! :) It's good one, little old lady mowed with it only after church on Sunday, electric start, with bag, self propelled, and garage kept. I'll send you a picture of the mower. Won't start now, I hope it is not the ignition pack.

I was thinking older than a lawnboy. We have 2 old motorized reel mowers around. I am pretty sure 1 or both have a 2 stroke motor on it.

I have 3 Lawn Boy's right now, all 2 cycle models. I love them as they are light and very powerful! If you've never tried one, do it as you will be a convert. Presently I have a 2001 model 10550 and a 1994 model 10515 that I both use and cut with. Both are 21" cut, self propelled models. The 10550 is an Easy Stride model (Toro called it Personal Pace) where the firmer you push on the handle, the faster it goes. 10515 has the conventional 3 speed (my favorite). I'm looking to take the 10515 to my Dad's and leave for cutting there to help out as they are using a true push there. I also have a '91 model C21 LB which is a true commercial but I'm delivering it (sold) this weekend. It was really too nice to use and heavy even with the ball bearing wheels and being non SP. Now, here's what I'm having problems finding.... Looking for a Toro Commercial 2 cycle 21" self propelled model with the Suzuki TV5002 engine. These are tough to find and I only want the SP model. Model part number's common to this commercial mower are 22035 and 22040. They were produced until 2006 and used by commercial lawn companies who love them. More common are the Suz powered Toro GTS 2 cycle homeowner model but I really have my heart set on the Toro Commercial 2 cycle. If anyone has a lead on one, please let me know here or via PM. Thanks!

Didn't those Lawn Boys have aluminum decks & hardware?

They were very light and well-made.
