Took my car out today for a quick shakedown cruise after fitting a Toyota supercharger on the cheap. Around 6 pounds of boost has netted me a very worthwhile improvement in performance... it now breaks the back end away in second gear..... whoohoo. All up cost ... NZ $483. Thats around $380us. Figured around $7 a horsepower. Did nothing but bolt it on, added a drive belt, blew it through the existing carburettor, and added a higher pressure fuel pump. Made all the bits in my modest workshop, 12 hours total. I guess a 30 to 40 percent increase in power, and a wonderful noise as well. How simple is that? No deto/preignition noises, no funny carby leaks, and really no hassles at all. LOVE it!! :D :D :D
Oh, and for those who dont think this is motorcycle related... I turned the new crank pulley up from the front hub of an old BSA motorcycle wheel. So there.

very interesting , what kind of car and carby ? , I did a blow throw system on a toyota Hiace yrs ago and had to seal the carby up as when it came on boost it would just blow petrol out any hole eg ecelorator pump plunger hole ended up using a clutch pushrod seal there to fix , fuel pump off volvo fuel ing , + boost variable reg to carby (this was a turbo ), made a 1600 hiAce fun to drive :D :D :D

The car is my new 81 mitsubishi Sigma 2 liter. Its done 300000ks and still like new. No airbags/computer/ecu/electric vibrating wing mirrors or other mod cons, means cheap to buy, cheap to run, cheap to fix.
I hate spending money on cars. I had the same trouble.... leaking around the accelerator pump plunger, also fixed with a rubber grommet. The plenum/carb hat is just a chunk of 4X2 box section, a disk and old valve spring for a blow off valve. The carby is the standard one, nothing fancy here. The annoying thing is, no preignition/deto..... I do want it to for the water injection experiment. Murphys law.
