Considering getting a track only bike. I have a Rd 400 but am guessing it'll be a pita? Or maybe thats my cheapest route. Maybe a beat up ninja 250? Any ideas? I am not a particularly fast person in the twisties so I am not necessarily looking for big power. More like reliability and handles decent.

The Ninja 250 is coming on strong in regional racing. It should make finding cheap used speed parts easier with better access to development info.

My wife and I both have FZR400's, they are a hoot to ride. Just under 400lbs. 60hp stock and one of the best handling bikes made.

Go with the ninja 250, there are a million out there. Best way to learn how to ride fast.

ONLY thing I figure could make an FZR400 even better, swap in a TD850 engine in place of the 400 plant. Use the 400 engine on a go-cart, powered bar stool, etc.

It's a good motor for a newbie, and with a 14k redline fun to ride hard. I may turn the 90 FZR back into a track but soon. With the Penske rear shock
and re-valved forks, upgraded front brakes it belongs on the track. The guy I bought it from had put a race bike top end on it and makes about 70hp to
the wheel. :D
