"use outer holes for pontiac grand prix"....."use inner holes for volkswagen-porsche" ........other than being cars what do those have in common? maybe some sort of clutch or ring gear alignment tool? or a failed attempt at the Moo Mod to a rotor ![]() |

Maybe an adapter to balance the rims. Didn't the old VW's have a huge center hub? I am not sure about the gran prix's though. |

VW used that pattern up to 67 on the Beetle, 70 Bus & The Thing in USA in 73-74. Yeah my guess is wheel balancer or even some tire mounting machine. I have & know the Coates adapter was different. |

Wheel balancer adapter sounds right to me,,, I think early Pontiac full size cars late 50's early 60's were "Wide Track" wide track rims had a huge bolt pattern. I could be way wrong the wide track cars were way before my time just going by something I may or may not have heard.. |

The 60's "wide track" Pontiac Grand Prix's were eight lug rims on a big bolt pattern. I would think that is a balancing ficture as it wouldn't be near strong enough for changing tires on the rims. Yep, wheel adaptor so you could find cool wheels for your VW. I had VW's in the late 60's and 70's and remember there were such things. But maybe not. ![]() John |

Inner bolt circle is for VW Bug wheels, outer uses 4 of the 8 lugs for a Pontiac Grand Prix 8 lug "tab wheel" used on optional aluminum drum brake setups in the mid to late 1960's. This device allows a regular bubble balancer to be used to balance the rim/tire assembly. This tool is for bubble balancing only, NOT for spin balancing. These were from two tool companies that made precision bubble balancers. I have one of these tools, mine is for my Coates balancer. It also works on the inexpensive "Harbor Fright" bubble balancer I have as well. |
