Just got back from the post office where I just learned the u.k. no longer allows insurance via our beloved usps wth .. A little scary when I just shipped two boxes that totaled apprx. 1k in value.. Even italy has insurance. As far as I know the u.k. is now the only country you cant get insurance for through usps.. Has anyone else discovered this? My postmaster claims it would have happened back in jan. Though was news to both him and myself... :(

I didn't know. I quit buying insurance a couple years ago, when I realized that it was cheaper to replace a lost part occasionally than to pay the overpriced insurance every time. I do understand what you mean about very expensive shipments.

Maybe it is just reciprocal? You have never been able to get insurance for stuff going standard post from England to the U.S. - it can be insured from England to the flight out but then you are on your own . . . .

UPS smashed a tri power carb for my GTO. If you happen to need the insurance it better have been packaged perfectly, they decided my tri power wasn't and they told me too bad. No refund on the insurance either. USPS backed up their insurance which was nice. I wonder why they wont cover it?

I've been told that's standard procedure, to be rejected by UPS. Then you have to keep battling and you have a shot at eventually winning. The guy who told me that has been through it many times. When he gets the runaround, he tells them that no matter what, he isn't going to give up until he gets paid. That way the rep he's talking to would rather put the paperwork through than have to deal with a phone call every day, forever.
