1st year if the Z06's reincarnation. Not rare, but not common. Not really a collectable yet, but it might be some day. There are enough people with ultra low mile cars in storage as "future collectables" that it's best off being driven and enjoyed. Something seems a bit fishy though, I don't remember and can't find any information on there being a convertible version. As far as I'm aware, all the early Z06's were coupes :wtf: The sill plates don't look right either. GM is pretty good about making custom panels that look more "production line" than just milling in some text (the official "Z06" emblem is very pronounced everywhere else it's shown). My guess is someone put Z06 badges on a standard convertible.

Bastardized.......no Z06 convertible from the factory. I dont think it is even a Z06 coupe......one thing to note is the retractable radio antenna....the Z06 would have a fixed antenna. Did you pop the hood.....did it have the LS6 motor?

Hmnnn this all adds fuel to the fire 8-) It is supposed to be a factory prototype soft top . . . maybe even the only One . . . The owner is quite shrewd and I suspect he would only have purchased it if it's provenance was proven

Shrewed enough to have a one of a kind factory prototype and not even use a car cover?

GM does NOT sell or give away prototypes or concept cars. Other companies will sometimes auction them off for charity or something along those lines(Ford's been doing that a lot recently). Not GM, they are very good about keeping or crushing their test vehicles, virtually none are in private hands. For this to be anything but a hoax, you would need substantial documentation that clearly shows it's origin. I think someone other than GM Z06'd a standard convertible.

John Heinricy was ( retired ) one of the top engineers at GM in the performance division. He races for Phoenix Performance and I've met him and talked with a few times.

GM never planned to do a Z06 convertible since it lacks the stuctural rigidity required for Z06 performance. They never did a test mule since it failed in computer simulations. It would have required more than 200 lbs of structal stiffeners to match the hardtop rigidity. Also why the Z06 was the hardtop and not available as a coupe. They also refused to offer the Z06 with an automatic transmission.

That said, it is possible that the car was fabricated from all genuine GM parts since they basically glue and bolt on.

Rick, can you get the serial number?

The Internet reveals that there were Sixteen of these models made, all were sent to dealers as "promotional" cars :eh:

John, if you saw with your own eyes the "reason" this car is dusty, you would understand.....

While I am not convinced it is a factory prototype, I wouldn't bet against it being one of the promotional cars.
