Post subject:  Middle Age time management.
I'm 37, married ten years, with one son six years old. I work the usual grind, think about building my bikes, boating, cycling, actually riding my motorcycles, etc! The reality is I get home from work, bust my boy outta school, play with him a bit, take a dump and feed the dog. By the time the wife is home it's dark, and then dinner. It's now wine time, maybe get lucky and start over the next day. I have brand new parts in a well equipped shop and I'm on the couch. :oops: My favorite trick is to take a day off and keep it a secret. With the wife at work and the boy at school I can put some music on and just tinker! No guilt over neglecting anybody then. Boy I miss the long summer days! How do you guys manage your time?

I'm 61, and it's often "wine time" :lol: Much as I like to work on the bike, I'm a bit grateful that Life gets in the way - Love it when the grandsons drop in and it's "hey Pop, what's goin' on in the shed?" Not much T.V. for me, maybe too much time on the computer! Sorry I can't give you any advice!!

After looking at all the nice project pics and completed resto's on this site I often ask the same question how does one do what you all do :?

I am the same as Sawracer in respect to a well equipped shop almost every tool needed is here, I have the bikes, some new parts and some good used parts all is ready to go but in life's priorities the bikes are pretty low my time is used up working to make a living, three kids two at home and one in college and a wife , two stupid dogs and two ugly cats it would take me just one - two weeks to do my S3 if I just ignored all the priorities but that's not going to happen. I hope some day to finsh the S3 (2 years now) then start on the H1.

It's almost little league again too! I'm not complaining, I'm certainly blessed to have such problems.

Well... middle age time management. This is probably the busiest time in your life and you feel there is no time to do anything. Our kids, 4 boys and 1 daughter have all left the nest but being too ambitious i've filled my life with other things, expanding business etc.

Bikes are the hobby but now, when getting older the lazy factor is slowly stepping in - probably i wouldn't do an engine overhaul anymore. There are better guys than me to do it nowadays, done few bikes and cars but not recently. All smaller things i still do but the wrenching is not anymore a passion like riding. Finally i will just polish my bikes and do plenty of posting here as long as you guys tolerate me...
Someone once said when asking technical details about his bike " I dunno, I just ride them" :lol: great answer as long as you have a skilled mechanic friend.

Im 58 but the lazy factor has become a controlling one in my day to day existance.
Leave for work before 7:30 and get home around 5:00PM.
Catch up on ebay sales and packaging things to ship the next day and I head to the TV to watch the evening news.
Next thing I know I have a 1 1/2 year old grandson that I love to spend time with, tugging at me to play.
8-9 oclock before you know it and I am beat.
This improves in the longer Summer days, but then its all about going riding until it gets dark.
No wonder my H1 has been on the table for almost 2 years now???
Moral of the story?
DONT GET OLD AND LAZY.

I've been watching this post and wondering if I should add to it or not. Guess I am.

Time management changes as you get older and your situation changes.

In my 20's and raising a family in the Bay Area I had little extra money so I did everything myself and cut a lot of corners and fabricated things.

In my 30's and raising a family in the Bay Area I had more money but lots of projects and my kids were riding too - so time was much more valuable.

In my 40's kids are grown and I had even MORE projects that I never seemed to get to.

In my 50's I scaled back, down to 7 bikes and life is good. I can concentrate on the H2 and other bikes and not worry about nottin, NUTTIN!
