But really with a another piston i don't see whats stopping this thing from running fine.

Assuming whatever caused the damage is now fixed.

I looked over the piston damage and it appears the PO had the ring gaps lined up and facing the exhaust port. I'm sure the engine running cold probably wobbled slightly due to the shape of the piston, exhaust port caught a ring and ripped it through the top of the piston.

Timing cover removed for some reason. You can't adjust the timing without dremeling out the bolt holes so i dunno whats up with this.

With the piston in backwards, the motor wouldn't run correctly because of the intake port timing. The ring ends expanding out into the exhaust port are why the motor blew. Make sure that you smooth out the exhaust port before you reassemble it. You don't want sharp edges for the rings to snag on.

Have fun with it. The Blaster is pretty fun for a small quad.

I don't have a blaster but i do have a IT 175. Due to the similarities in the motors I have been shopping speed equipment. CT racing makes a 240 cc stroker that pulls over 40 hp. Not cheap but something to look into. I'm going to go the big bore route at te least. Cool quad, brings back memories of when I was a broke teen :).
