My house in So. Cal. I moved out of to come to No. Nevada was about 12 miles from that speedway. I never saw it, but it would have been fantastic to take a few laps on it. |

Remember, those bikes were state of the art back then, with most being in the 5 to 6 horsepower range, and the Indian 8 valve mentioned about 7 or so. The most outrageous rider back then was the "Shrimp" character referred to. |

You gotta love the part when Fredericks crashed at 105 mph and two guys make him walk back to the pits. He looked like he could have used a little more help than that. |

Wondering how you get a 6hp engine to push a bike to over 100mph, I know an old horizontal cylinder Honda 90 won't go that fast LOL. Must have equated to much higher wheel torque than the Honda will make, and given the CC of those twins I guess that's it. |

Lots of torque, and, bicycle frame. Yes, they had not a lot of HP compared to today's engines, no brakes, No transmission, radical top,end gearing, and flexed like all get out. It took iron men that literally had a death wish to go fast on them. In my collection, I have both a 1911, and 1919 HD twin cylinder board track race bikes. There really ain't much there except engine. I have ridden both of them, reasonably fast, but not up to maximum speed, and a friend's Indian 8 valve, and for all 3, the report is, a single word, DEADLY.. |

I bet deadly... And then, the issue of the staggering board feet of wood used in those tracks, must have felled entire forests to get enough wood for all that. Then the moisture and across board swelling, to add to the nightmarish bike non handling and hard tires, and when you slid off, the splinters.... |
